End-to-end design for a women's health app making health education more accessible.

Timeline
3 weeks
There is a clear gap in health education and frustration that women of all ages experience with not having the resources they want and need to understand their health.
Design an MVP for a mobile app to serve as a reliable resource for women of all ages to track their health, learn about their health from an extended library, and chat directly with a doctor specialized in women's health.
After conducting user interviews, I developed groups to identify commonalities.

Key Insights

Participants' women's health education is minimal beyond puberty.

of participants are frustrated with the lack of health information that they have been provided throughout their general education and through conversations with their doctor.

50% of participants complete a lot of research on their own when facing health issues, rather than being provided information or research by their doctors.
I created two user personas based on my insights found from the user research.
Conducting competitive research allowed me to understand existing solutions and identify areas of opportunity within other products.
Key Insights
From analyzing the competitive research, I was able to identify a clear gap in many existing women’s health products.

75% of the companies reviewed are dedicated primarily to period tracking features

Only Eli provides access directly to a doctor. This indicates further need for users to connect with doctors online for education and better understanding of their own health

Flo and Clue provide educational aspects within their product, although both tend to fall behind their primary focus of the period tracking feature.
I’d like to explore ways to help women of all ages learn about and track their health because there is a clear gap in education and a lack of support women experience from their doctors.
I began to develop key features that will be an important aspect of addressing the defined problem and user needs.
I developed user flows to better understand the paths users might take and to determine which screens and actions need to be accounted for when wireframing.
Developing task flows helped define the user's ideal path and outline key screens.
I began the process of designing the key screens defined in the user flows through a series of sketches.
I then conducted usability tests with three users. The main testing goals were to identify pain points, determine if more or less content was needed, and assess whether the designs successfully addressed the users' key problems.

Participants expressed confusion about the content within the Sign-Up user flow. This feedback allowed us to revisit our key personas to determine what content was essential and what might be unnecessary for the user.

All participants moved through the flows successfully, experiencing little friction or confusion.

Participants noted that they would prefer the product to choose the content or personal trackers based on their age, rather than having to manually select them when creating an account.
The high-fidelity wireframes incorporated my branding work along with edits based on findings from the usability tests.
Identify any pain points users experience while navigating the prototype, gather their overall impressions of the app, and determine where tweaks could be made to improve the user experience and understanding of Wellara.
After conducting the usability tests, I prioritized the pain points and comments noted by participants to capture the items with the most impact on the user.

Rewording the profile to focus on the doctor's background improved users' trust in the Wellara doctor. Additionally, other interface updates, such as redesigning the pill sizes, enhanced usability.
Updated Design
Updating the wording to notify users of a typical response timeframe provided clarity and put them at ease. Further updates to the copy introduced a friendly tone of voice, improving the overall user experience with Wellara.
Previous Design
Updated Design
Organizing the components within the Wellara application was crucial to ensure a seamless handoff to developers. I refined the UI kit throughout all iterations and revisited it after finalizing the designs to keep the kit up to date and properly organized.
After notating design changes and updating the UI kit, i have our validated Wellara prototypes ready to go!
